Luxury vinyl plank is what we recommend when a room sees water, heavy traffic, or both. Kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, basements and rental properties are where it earns its keep.
Modern rigid-core LVP is a long way from the sheet vinyl people remember. A dense core keeps it flat and quiet underfoot, a printed layer carries a realistic grain, and a clear wear layer takes the abuse. The number that matters is the thickness of that wear layer: 12 mil is fine for a spare room, 20 mil or better is what we specify for a family kitchen.
Because it floats rather than being fixed down, LVP is forgiving of a subfloor that is dry but not perfect. It is not forgiving of one that is damp. We meter the slab before quoting a basement, every time.

Common questions
Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof?
The plank itself is — a rigid core will sit in water without swelling. What is not automatically waterproof is the joint between planks and the perimeter. We seal the perimeter in wet rooms and use a click system rated for full submersion, which is why our basement and bathroom installs hold up.
Will it look like plastic?
The cheap ones do. The difference is in the wear layer and the embossing: a 20-mil wear layer with texture registered to the printed grain catches light the way wood does, and it will not shine up under a window. We will show you samples side by side so you can see where the extra cost goes.
Can it go over my existing floor?
Often, yes. Rigid-core LVP floats, so it can go over sound vinyl, tile or a well-prepared screed as long as the surface is flat and dry. It cannot go over carpet, or over anything hiding a moisture problem.
